Russian pork enters China: In the first quarter of 2025, Russia exported 76,000 tons of pork and por
Russia supplied China with $32 million worth of pork in the first quarter of 2025, according to the Russian Agricultural Export Development Center (Agroexport).

China ranked third among Russian pork importers in the first quarter, with Vietnam first and Belarus second, according to the Russian Agricultural Export Development Center.

China banned pork imports from Russia from 2008 to 2023; the ban was linked to the discovery of African swine fever in Russia. Russia resumed pork exports to China in March 2024.

Yury Kovalev, general director of the Russian National Union of Pig Farming Enterprises, said actual pork supplies from Russia to China did not resume until May and June last year. He said Russia exported about 40,000 tons of pork to China in the second half of 2024. He estimated that Russia's pork exports to China in 2025 could double that of last year.
Dmitry Alexeev, business manager of Russian Agroeko, said that the Chinese market has a huge capacity, which provides great opportunities for expanding the variety of pork products and earning additional income by exporting pig by-products that are not very popular in Russia.

Alexeev pointed out: "China is currently one of the most promising directions for Russian exporters."

Overall, preliminary estimates show that in the first three months of 2025, Russian companies exported 76,000 tons of pork and pig by-products worth more than $180 million. In terms of physical volume, exports increased by 72% compared with the first quarter of 2024, and in terms of value, exports increased by 1.1 times. If exports were to 32 countries in the first quarter of 2024, then exports were to 43 countries from January to March 2025.
